Hit & run pedal reviews

As I previously cited the Kokko compressor, the Spec Ops Black Rat is totally worthy like a Rat pedal inna small form, around US$20, shipped.

Wanna get a bit more trad silicon fuzz with a lotta adjustability and even usable on bass, the Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz, besides looking stupid, sounds great at about US$40, shipped.

Duncan pedals are totally under-rated and under priced, and built like military weapons.

The Power Grid is a cool hot distortion, and the Pickup Booster does great things to single coil and humbucker pickups in the sense of thickening or thinning them, as well as boost.

On writing lyrics

Part of a post I made at LO:

Me, I usually write the lyrics by applying a catch phrase to the music, and expanding onnit (ex., “Lightning Rod”).

As an English/creative writing major in college, and as a lawyer, I learned to edit-edit-re-edit my prose, and admit that the editing of my own stuff, (curiously not that of others) often boors me to tears.

Lyrics, then, are an act of spontaneity – they are impressionistic, emotional, and if not strictly word-play on that catch phrase, are about things that concern me at the time of writing.

And I am a politically angry person, something of a horndog, a drinker, and a fan of puns, among other things – those are clear touchstones in my lyrics.

For me, writing/playing/recording is my chosen art form. I would not do it if it weren’t fun, and I will not do it if it’s not fun.

Tomsline Shaper

Does a good job behind “character” pedals to vary their sounds; the EQ sounds as good as the pedals’ own “cabs”, and has distinct settings. Accurate? Sure, why not, especially with some ambience added. I think I paid US$20 shipped; I use it on my DI board.
