5-Pack

5pack sm.jpg

So I’ve a story (ain’t I always?)

PV hazza cracked guard; to extent I could see on Ebog pix, I thought it a hair.

After I paid, seller disclosed – I gotta $50 refund, based on $40 pickguard on the ‘bog – bought the guard.

Crack ain’ visible, no functional difference, and guard is PITA to change.

I hung replacement on wall.

Bass is awesome, BTW, does Rick, MM, Fenders, Gibbies – fookin’ amazing.

That is, BTW, about US$4K worth of nuffin’. (I said, “about”.)

How to use a Rat

Try the Rat as a OD – roll the Distortion near down, turn the treble slightly up (remember – it’s opposite), run the Volume at 50%.

Then, at the end of the night and the free shots yer fans bought ya, crank the Distortion and Volume to 75%.

What? No shots?

Crank to 100%.

Music Production “tips”

Some of my rules of thumb:

For EQ, “cut before add”.

Another great rule of thumb for production decisions (arrangement, mixing) is, “cut the un-neccessary”.

Pass-filters are your friend.

Compression should be barely seen and not heard, unless you want it to be.

Put just enuff reverb on and then lower it.

Or raise it.

Put just enuff distortion on and then lower it.

Or raise it.

Put just enuff cymbals on and then lower ’em.

Lower ’em again.

The most important thing is the vocal.

If there is no vocal, the melody.

If there is no melody, you are doing EDM and no one cares.

After the vocal, get the bass correct.

That includes the kick and any foundational toms.

It’s good to have one silly thing in each song – ex., a too high lead guitar, and muffed vocal, a dragging beat …
