Globalmeltzilla

We need to see (like ya see so many zombie or vampire shite flix) more, “what hatched from the ice” subplots.

And it’s gotta be Godzilla.

See, whatever/however the last ‘zilla movie actually ended, we pick up with Godzilla frozen at the north pole …

…until he isn’t, no.

Some pedal reviews

In the last cuppla-3 months:

Wampler Reflector – one of the best spring reverb pedals – just replaced my Wampler Faux Spring. I really like Wampler pedals.

CMC Green Russian: made by a guy on Reverb, it’s like the perfect modded Green Russian, really good on guitar and bass, lotsa options.

Aguilar Fuzzistor: I like the Agro better as this is kinda one sound, but the blend is cool, and it is a pretty unique sound in being like a guitar fuzz that works well on bass, not at all Muffy.

Ashdown Double-Shot: a very cool drive pedal, bass or guitar, this is gonna be on a bass board for sure – it’s really good, flexible, and unknown. Coffee-themed.

DemonFX Harmonic Booster: kinda a clone of the Darkglass, I was curious and the price was right. It’s really like a glorified EQ pedal to be used with other dirt pedals. I can see it’s usability but likely won’t need it – I just grab a different dirt pedal, me.

MXR Studio Compressor: same as (except black) the LED bass compressor, replaces mine which broke, as they seem to do (that one passes signal but does nuthin’).

Keeley 4 knob – nice compressor for guitar, loses some bottom w/ bass
Keeley Neutrino – may now be my board envelope filter (and I have two, paid $40 to get a FX one fixt)
Legato looper – very easy and handy

Minis:
Mosky Vol Attenuator – for my HRDX FX loop
Tumnus – s’posedly a Klone – WTFDIK? – but it do sound good
Nobels ODR mini – nice drive, I am really liking this as always on to stack in front of other mini’s, like the Disnortion, Timmy, Sugar, Tumnus … I shot ’em all out and that’s my conclusion

J. Rockett Touch – I really like this, tho’ haven’t compared it or used it with any other dirts except Green Russian, where it worked well after

pop, yeah

I postulate:

the latest Foos and the latest Stones are intentionally pop productions

(both, btw, great in cans)

what to bring

I just gotta feeler about recording a buddy’s son’s band

he went to School of Rock (the kid), is really good at shred rock

I jammed with him once, taught him a way to improv

buddy asked what I’d charge I said, “$0”

too early to tell him the band’s gotta bring their girlfriends and one for me

Some choons reco’s

Somebody at TOMB asked for

Music recommendations – diversify my playlist

Slow Dive’s latest is … Slow Dive
The Foo Fighters latest is really good in cans; they use rock songs and pop arrangements, with Cheap Trick (Grohl would say Beatles) influence
The Viagra Boys are hilarious, and they rock
The latest Bush is a tight band, some interesting arrangements, great voice, usual insipid lyrics
The Afghan Whigs latest is much like Twilight Singers, but heavier – some cool wall-of-sound mixes
The recent Joe Strummer/Mescaleros is my fave live album recently – does some great Clash songs, too
The Wilco double country, and the latest, are both good
Of course, Isbells’ stuff is great – I been buyin’ up the older stuff
As well, I’m very into Drive By Truckers, who just release a re-mastered Southern
Another great and also funny writer is James McMurtry
I liked the last Psych Furs record of a year or two ago
I’m lovin’ the re-constituted Dream Syndicate
just got a limited- release live house solo performance of Steve Wynn offa bandcamp – I’m a pretty big fan of his stuff
There’s a new live UFO out that’s like 3 shows after their famous live one, a few new songs, Schenker is amazing
I recently bought Miles Davis’ Nefertiti and am enjoying it
Peter Hook has done a cuppla live records with this band with his son, The Light – respectable Joy Division “covers”
I went back and listened to the Metallic-Lou Reed collab; would been better as a single record, not as bad as ya might predict
the latest cuppla Neil Youngs are great, including two releases of older un-released stuff (SilveradoChrome Dreams) but I especially enjoy the recent live record from the dry-run shows for The Ragged Glory tour
I bought one of those cheap box sets of Larry Graham – some great stuff, some schmaltz
the cheap P-Funk box is better
I keep goin’ thru my Lanegan stuff (the Screaming Trees release of a year or two back rocks – Homme on second guitar)
Dino, Jr. is always good, a few boxes out now
the last cuppla Lucinda Williams are great, especially the black jacket one (the second latest)
the latest QOTSA is growing on me – Homme is such a weird writer

talkin’ ’bout the B-vasion

posted elseweb:

Me, I liked Free, Faces, Humble Pie, Foghat, Thin Lizzy; friends dug and so I listened to ELP, Yes, Genesis, Sabbath

Zep was ever-present, from their beginning

I’m like a trend behind in my preferences from invasion stuff

I learned some Beatles and Hollies and Paul Revere (American was he?) and that kinda stuff over the years

prefer the Stones, and Cheap Trick, to the Beatles

so eat me
